1979 Marked the 10th Anniversary of the Trans Am. Pontiac built a 10th Anniversary car to
celebrate this milestone. The car is silver and charcoal exterior, and silver leather interior.
The 10th Anniversary cars had every option. The 4 speed cars were not for sale in California due
to emissions and were all Pontiac motors. The automatics were all Olds 403's. The bird decal on
the hood is the largest bird decal ever used, the wing tips even extend onto the fenders.
The bird, coloring and the silver leather interior is how to easily spot these cars. The VIN and
build sheet are also indicators. The VIN will have an X in the second character space, indicating
10th Anniversary car for 79. The Build Sheet will have
the Y89 code, indicating Silver Anniversary package.
