How to quickly spot an Oldsmobile motor or Pontiac motor in a Trans Am or Firebird.

Pontiac Motor T/A 6.6

Pontiac Motor T/A 6.6

This is a standard pontiac motor. The tell-tale sign is the shaker decal, T/A 6.6 indicates the car has a Pontiac Motor. 6.6 Litre indicates the Olds motor, 403 CID. The Olds motor was used as it burned cleaner and was only for sale in California at the time. The Pontiac motors were not sold in California due to emmisions. A common trick to cars that are restored or repainted is to apply the T/A 6.6 stickers to the shaker, even though the car has an Olds powerplant.

The Olds motor from site is easily distinguishable by the oil filler cap and spout right in front of the intake manifold. It really sticks out, you can spot it right away. Additionally there are no OEM 4-speed Olds powered Trans Ams. This was not a factory option.

A different view. You can see the oil fill cap right beside the upper radiator hose.
